Officials have revealed some of the most bizarre objects people stick up their bums, a habit that causes nearly 40,000 individuals to seek hospital treatment each year
The medical and financial costs of people sticking foreign objects up their back passages is in the spotlight after a list of the 25 oddest objects found in the US backsides in 2024 was shared.
Nearly 40,000 people in the US are hospitalised each year with items in their butts. Bum-bothering Brits, meanwhile, cost the NHS over £300,000 each year, forcing surgeons to fish out objects including live eels, glass bottles, an instant coffee jar with pins in the lid, a Buzz Lightyear toy, concrete mix, and an aubergine.
The American Journal of Emergency Medicine reports that most patients are middle-aged and male. Over half of the cases involving sex toys and, alarmingly, cases are on the rise, possibly spurred by the surge in online porn and easier access to sex toys.
The US government’s running tally from doctors further reveals how cases can escalate once people try to fix their predicament themselves, so that items such as tweezers or even coat hangers also end up in their rears. Defector sifted through the US Consumer Product Safety Commission’s database of emergency room visits to identify the worst 25 objects beyond sex toys, such as a 24-inch-long dildo.
The full list of the top 25 strangest objects lodged in people’s bums in 2025:
1. Screws and nails
2. A dog chew toy
3. Beard clippers wrapped up in a plastic baggie, cited as being used as constipation relief
4. A baton
5. A turkey baster
6. A shampoo bottle (listed more than once)
7. A dental pick
8. A wine stopper
9. A corn cob holder

20. A corncob-style pipe
21. Uncooked pasta
22. A piece of nose hair trimmer

Doctors and medical professionals hope the list will provide a handy warning about not sticking objects up rear passages – and not shoving up other tools to remove any items already there. Defector provides a further eye-watering list of what got removed from other body entrances, including a couple of diamond rings a woman put inside herself for fear they might be stolen at party.
Men have reportedly somehow managed to squeeze chess pieces, apple cores, and headphones up their todgers.
