A former England star said he and Cheryl had a fling before she married Ashley Cole but then he got another woman pregnant, ending their complicated relationship
A former England international once said he dated Cheryl before she married Ashley Cole, but their relationship broke down when he got another woman pregnant.
Kieron Dyer, who turned 46 on Monday, starred for Newcastle in the Premier League after a £6m move from Ipswich Town, but his status off the pitch was also growing when his form earned him a regular place in the England squad in the early 2000s, thrusting him into the public eye.
And the winger’s fame saw him woo then Girls Aloud star and Geordie sweetheart Cheryl on multiple dates, before she started seeing former Arsenal and Chelsea left-back Cole – Dyer’s good friend on international duty.
In the autobiography titled ‘My Story’, Dyer claimed that Cheryl was “nervous” on their first date, which saw them head to the cinema.
Dyer also alleged that once Ashley Cole got together with the Fight For This Love singer, the two footie stars “were never close friends again”.
The midfielder claimed that his alleged romance with Cheryl was the talk of the England changing rooms, writing: “Whenever I met up with England, the boys asked me questions about Cheryl.
“Ashley Cole asked a million and one questions. He was fascinated by her. When they got together and married, it all started to make sense. He was always keen on her and desperate to get to know her.”
Dyer described Cheryl as an “absolutely great girl”, but claimed their romance came to an end due to his “complicated” personal life.
He said: “She was an absolutely great girl, but my personal life was complicated at that time and I wouldn’t say we were ever really boyfriend and girlfriend.
“There was a time a bit later when she wanted me to get more serious, but I couldn’t because I had got another girl pregnant. I knew that Cheryl deserved better than me, so it kind of fizzled out.”
Cheryl later dated Cole in 2004 and married two years later before their relationship came to a bitter end in 2010 after accusations of infidelity against the former Chelsea defender.
Speaking about her relationship with Cole at the time, Cheryl revealed that the money they enjoyed didn’t make her happy; instead it was spending time with the footballer in bed that meant the most to her.
“Sex with Ashley is more important to me than all the money in the world,” she said. “Sex makes me happy, money doesn’t. And Ashley makes me feel sexy, he’s fantastic.
“We tackle each other in the bedroom and he loves me massaging his feet. I think more men prefer to hear little breaths rather than big loud screams. Otherwise you sound like a porn film.”
