Gerwyn Price steals World Champion Luke Littler’s thunder with ‘best prize ever’

Darts star Gerwyn Price has stolen Luke Littler’s thunder with the “best prize ever” after the Paddy Power PDC World Darts Championship finished on Saturday

Luke Littler swept up the Sid Wadell trophy and the Ballon d’Art on Saturday evening, after beating Gian van Veen in the World Darts Championship final – but he might be green with envy on Sunday.

That’s what fans think anyway, after Gerwyn Price, who was dumped out of the competition in the second round when he clashed with Wesley Plaisier, came away with the “best prize”. And the Iceman flexed it on social media after the final.

Sharing a package from food chain Toby Carvery, the Welsh thrower had received a black box with the message: “What’s better than hitting a 180…180 roast dinners… Come on down and enjoy the Home of the Roast while you’re competing!”

Inside the box was a gold card, and he said: “Wow! Thank you @tobycarvery can’t believe I’ve been given this Gold Card

“It literally is the home of the roast and my always number one go to when I don’t want to cook. 2026 has started so well.”

“Living the dream,” one fan joked. “Never see your face light up like that before when opening the box,” a second said. And another added: “I’d be all over that!”

As well as not being able to tuck into a carvery free of charge, Littler is also set to lose almost half of his £1million World Darts Championship jackpot.

Littler’s paycheck is set to take a huge tax hit with a study by OLBG suggesting the 18-year-old will forfeit £458,843 of his winnings. The study adds that £22,011 will also need to be paid in National Insurance. Meaning Littler stands to take home £541,157 after tax.

Following his semi-final win over Ryan Searle, Littler was asked about the increased prize money, saying: “It’s a massive prize. But it’s the trophy on the stage, it’s not the money.

“I’m repeating myself, but ever since the Grand Slam I have just said I want to go back-to-back. So hopefully I can lift the trophy again and think about the money after.

“It feels great, not many people have done it, the first three World Championships reaching the final. I have joined a short list of people doing that. Now obviously the only goal is to join the list of people going back-to-back champions.”
