US President Donald Trump has claimed that Venezuela will be turning over between 30 and 50 million barrels of oil to the United States following Maduro’s capture
United States President Donald Trump has declared that Venezuela will be handing over between 30 and 50 million barrels of oil to his nation as he issued a statement to the world.
“I am pleased to announce that the Interim Authorities in Venezuela will be turning over between 30 and 50 MILLION Barrels of High Quality, Sanctioned Oil, to the United States of America,” Trump announced in a post on social media platform Truth Social on Tuesday, January 6, , reports the Mirror.
Trump stated the oil will be sold at market value and that he will oversee the funds “to ensure it is used to benefit the people of Venezuela and the United States!”.
He revealed he has instructed Energy Secretary Chris Wright to carry out the plan without delay.
The oil will be transported via storage vessels and delivered straight to offloading facilities in the United States, he confirmed.
The post concluded with the phrase “thank you for your attention to this matter!”.
The White House is arranging an Oval Office gathering on Friday with oil industry chiefs concerning Venezuela, according to one source, who sought anonymity to discuss the arrangements.
Representatives from Exxon, Chevron and ConocoPhillips are anticipated to participate, the source revealed.
Trump’s declaration follows days after Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, 63, and his wife Cilla Flores, 69, were seized by an elite unit of the US military during an overnight operation on Saturday, January 3, raising concerns about additional military actions.
The Venezuelan leader, who has held power for 12 years, has been branded a dictator and faces drug and terrorism charges filed at a New York court in the Southern District in 2020.
This development follows declarations that Washington has targeted Greenland, Cuba, Mexico, Colombia and Iran.
Trump has also been exploring a “range of options” to secure Greenland, according to the White House, after UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer joined fellow European leaders in demanding the US president backs down from threats to seize the territory.
The most serious crisis facing the UK could stem from a US takeover of Greenland, given it forms part of NATO ally Denmark’s kingdom and represents a longstanding British partner, The Mirror has previously reported.
Deploying the US military remains “always an option” for the president to weigh up, according to a White House statement.
Trump has maintained that seizing control of Greenland, a semi-autonomous Danish territory, is essential for his nation’s national security.
This prompted European leaders, including the Prime Minister, to stand firmly with Denmark and declare they will “not stop defending” Greenland’s territorial integrity.
