Hairy Bikers star Si King has opened up about the end of his partnership with Dave Myers, who died in February 2024
Si King has confirmed the Hairy Bikers have come to an end following the death of Dave Myers.
The pair formed one of Britain’s most cherished double acts, bonding over their mutual love of cuisine and motorcycles. Their partnership spawned numerous cooking programmes, including The Hairy Bikers’ Cookbook and The Hairy Dieters, producing over 30 series during their time together, reports the Express.
However, in 2024 Dave died at 66 after fighting cancer.
TV star Si confessed: “It’s done. That’s it. The Bikers were plural. There’s no Hairy Bikers without my mate.”
Speaking candidly to Radio Times about their unshakeable friendship, Si explained: “He doesn’t stop being your best mate just because he’s passed away. That’s never going to go. We were like brothers: we drove each other mad, because we were two very different people, but we absolutely adored each other.
“So nobody’s ever going to take his place. I don’t want to look in the rear-view mirror of my motorcycle and see anyone else there. It’s Dave, you know? And the same when he was leading: I drove hundreds of miles looking at his ugly ass. That’s my memory, that’s what I want to keep. That’s what it was about.”
The star is now focusing on his upcoming Channel 4 programme, Britain’s Favourite Railway Stations with Si King – marking his first significant solo venture since Dave’s passing.
Si, a fervent railway buff, will be seen interacting with the dedicated staff who ensure the smooth operation of Britain’s railways.
The show will also highlight the nation’s engineering feats and an extensive rail network boasting over 2,600 stations.
“You have to move forward, but the only way you can do that is by cherishing the memories,” he said.
Si’s television comeback comes after persistent queries from Hairy Bikers enthusiasts, who frequently express their anticipation for his upcoming ventures – a sentiment he finds “incredibly humbling.”
Dave died two years after sharing his diagnosis. In a heartfelt tribute to his best mate, Si wrote: “Last night, on 28th February 2024, with Lili, Dave’s wife, his family, close friend David and myself by his side, he passed away peacefully at home. All who knew Dave are devastated at his passing. His beloved wife brought him such happiness as did her children, Iza and Sergiu who Dave loved like his own.
“Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment. My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can’t follow. I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime.”
He concluded the poignant message: “I wish you God’s speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. Love ya.”
