Greenland ‘on brink of civil war’ as local gives stern warning to Britain

Date:

With Greenland as the new centre of diplomatic tensions, one resident has issued a warning to the UK as tensions escalate over Donald Trump’s plans to take over the country for “national security”

A resident of Greenland has issued a stark warning to the UK, as he says he is supporting Trump’s bid for a US takeover of the Danish territory. He revealed that, in his view, the country teeters on the “brink of civil war.”

Greenland has fast become the next choke point in international tensions as World War 3 fears continue to rise. While the vast majority of Greenlanders oppose Trump’s takeover of the island for “national security” reasons, some have welcomed the proposal with open arms.

Jorgen Boassen, a 51-year-old boss of a bricklaying firm and self-proclaimed “revolutionary,” is among a small group advocating for US control over their homeland. Boassen is a vocal supporter of the “Make Greenland American” movement, but revealed his activism has cost him his relationship with his loved ones — including his fiancée and daughter.

Despite the US President’s insistence that such a move would enhance security and be straightforward for his country to rule over, he has faced strong opposition. Greenland’s Prime Minister has defiantly criticised the global leader for his “bullying tactics”.

With a population fewer than 60,000 people, Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. However, it holds strategic significance for NATO and the EU — and now, it seems, the United States, according to the Mirror.

Boassen admitted his in-laws “despise” his pro-US campaign, and claims his partner was sacked from her 30-year job at Air Greenland, a Danish airline, shortly after he attended MAGA events celebrating Trump’s inauguration in Washington. Now he says that there is internal conflict brewing within the nation and tensions could soon boil over.

Boassen says a “climate of fear” gripping the territory, with families torn asunder and punch-ups erupting in drinking establishments. He explained to the Daily Mail: “My bricklaying company has closed because people have blacklisted it, and the same thing is happening to other businesses who show support for Trump.

“I’m staying in Copenhagen for now because people back home are afraid to associate with me,” he added. “That’s how it is in Greenland now; those who really want the Americans to take over dare not speak out — there is a climate of fear.”

Boassen warned that civil war could engulf Greenland as the “tension is so great”. He continued: “The Danes control 95 per cent of all the businesses here, and they are hunting down people like me with independent dreams of working with America.”

Issuing a stark warning about potential violence, he pointed out there’s sufficient weaponry for conflict as “almost every home has a gun for hunting”. He delivered a direct message to the UK leader: “So, I say to the EU and the UK — to Sir Keir Starmer — before you step in, you should be very careful, and you should know the truth about Denmark: they are repressing our people.”

Whilst Denmark and Greenland insist the island remains off the market, the dispute has created tensions in transatlantic relations, with Denmark’s prime minister cautioning that American control could signal NATO’s demise. Sir Keir Starmer “set out his position on Greenland” during a Wednesday evening (January 7) phone call with Donald Trump, according to Downing Street.

The Prime Minister has consistently insisted that the future of Greenland should be determined solely by Greenland and Denmark. He reiterated the same commitment as he addressed the Commons earlier that day.
