Emmerdale star Ash Palmisciano, who plays Matty Barton in the ITV soap, has shared an insight into his romance with his rarely-seen girlfriend
Emmerdale’s Ash Palmisciano appeared absolutely besotted as he snuggled up to his long-term partner.
The star joined the ITV drama in 2018 as Matty Barton, making history as the soap’s first transgender actor. As the on-screen son of village stalwart Moira (Natalie J. Robb), the 36 year old has been at the centre of numerous major plot lines.
His character’s journey has included undergoing top surgery, facing imprisonment, and his heartbreaking marriage to Amy (Natalie Ann Jamieson), who met her tragic end last year – ensuring his village stint has been packed with high-stakes drama.
Off-screen, however, Ash enjoys a blissful romance with partner Shea Rowan. The pair made their relationship public on New Year’s Eve as they welcomed 2022 together, reports the Mirror.
Recently, Ash sent fans into a frenzy when he reposted a stunning snap of the couple on his Instagram Story. The Polaroid picture captured the duo looking completely smitten with each other.
Previously, Ash has opened up about Shea, showering praise on his girlfriend for her unwavering support. Speaking to OK! in 2024, he revealed: “She’s really proud, and I’m very lucky to have her. She’s very level-headed and chilled-out.”
Though Ash joked: “Shea was a bit annoyed that I got married in the show. She helps me learn my lines and really helps me with the wedding stuff.”
He added: “We’re good mates with Natalie [Ann Jamieson] and her partner too – we live quite close to each other so we all hang out together.”
Ash tragically experienced his own personal loss in 2022 following the death of his cherished mum at the age of 60, reportedly due to complications from long-term rheumatoid arthritis.
He confided to The Mirror: “Mum was the most important person in my life.” He then expressed his relief that Shea had the opportunity to meet his mum before her passing. Ash disclosed: “I’m glad Mum got to meet her a few times before she died.
“We’ve been through a lot in a short space of time. I believe lockdown taught us all that you know straight away if something’s meant to be though.”
