Call the Midwife star Christopher Harper has admitted it’s a relief to play a nice character on the hit BBC drama after his stint playing an abuser on Coronation Street
Christopher Harper is relieved he gets to have fun on Call The Midwife after years of being evil on Corrie.
The actor is playing nice as loveable Geoffrey Franklin these days. It’s a world away from his stint as paedophile Nathan Curtis on Corrie from 2016 to 2024. Christopher said: “The biggest thing that happened to me when I was doing the Corrie storyline is that people who had been sexually abused or had family members who had been abused would come up to me a lot.
“I’d be in Lidl and someone would tell me their story. It was a massive privilege, but sometimes you just want to get some sausage rolls and leg it. Now I’m playing Geoffrey on Call The Midwife, things are different.
“I get people coming up to me to tell me they’ve seen Geoffrey on the show and they expect me to be lovely. That’s a lot more fun.”
Christopher has been on Call The Midwife for three years and he’s having the time of his life.
He added: “I absolutely love playing Geoffrey. It’s a complete joy. He has this ability to really listen to people and understand them.
“This series, he has a storyline that’s really heartfelt. I know it’s going to hit people’s hearts.”
Co-star Helen George is also thrilled to be part of the show.
The actress, who plays Geoffrey’s sister Trixie, said: “It feels really special that I’ve been here from the beginning, and there’s only a few of us that have that badge now.
“To make it to 15 series has been an incredible experience for me.
“Watching Trixie’s storylines develop and watching the popularity of the show grow not just in this country, but around the world, has been an amazing thing to witness.
“It’s been something that I could only have dreamed of. I’m so proud of everything that we’ve achieved so far.”
