Corrie’s Sally Metcalfe has been one of Weatherfield’s biggest gossips for quite some time.
Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor has shared a major milestone in her career, as her co-stars offer their support.
The actress, 62, first hit the cobbles as Sally Seddon when she was 22 and has remained a favorite among dedicated fans of the ITV soap.
The much-loved character has been at the centre of numerous major storylines, including her turbulent marriage to Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) and a harrowing domestic violence plot at the hands of her partner, Greg Kelly (Stephen Billington).
In 2009, Sally gripped the nation as she battled breast cancer both on and off-screen, a development she credits with potentially saving her life.
Taking to Instagram on Monday (January 12), Sally confirmed that she is due to celebrate 40 years since her first appearance in Coronation Street, leaving her co-stars in awe.
To mark the huge milestone, Sally shared a 40th anniversary card she had received from her co-star Tony Maudsley, who plays George Shutteleworth on the show.
The front cover depicts Sally’s very first scene of her character getting splashed by Kevin’s car driving through a puddle, which aired during an episode on January 27, 1986.
Sally proudly captioned the post: “I can’t believe it’s 40 years in Corrie this month. What a ride it has been. Love what I do so much. Thank you @tonymaudsley1 for this, it’s wonderful.”
The post was met with flurries of well-wishes from her co-stars, with Sally’s on-screen husband, Joe Duttine, who plays Tim Metclaf, writing: “Oh wow, that’s amazing…love you Sal xx.”
Tony Maudsley replied: “You are very welcome Sal. Happy Corriversary, you massive legend”, while Lauren Bolton star Cait Fitton, added: “You’re a bloody amazing!!!! Congrats you iconic queen.”
Steve McDonald actor Simon Gregson exclaimed: “Happy anniversary, lovely Sally”, while Emmerdale star Michelle Hardwick added: “Remember that scene! Amazing Sally.”
Sally Carmen, who plays Corrie’s Abi Webster, stated: “How is this possible? You’re only 36”, while her former co-star Brooke Vincent, who played Sophie Webster, added: “Congratulations Sal.”

Speaking previously with Woman’s Weekly magazine, the soap star has reassured fans she isn’t going anywhere, and she intends to be on Corrie until she’s in her 80s.
“I want to keep working, it’s good for my brain,” she said. “So, if they still want me, maybe I’ll be in the show in my 70s and 80s. I’ll just keep going.”
Sally added: “It’s such a great job and I feel very grateful I’ve still got it after 40 years.”
