Where iconic restaurant chain will shut 16 branches across UK — see full list

As TGI Fridays becomes the latest high-street staple to close some of its branches due to high costs, Daily Star looks at where in the country customers will be set to lose out on their favourite dishes

Two TGI Fridays branches in Yorkshire are among the 16 UK restaurants that have abruptly shut down after administrators were called in. The Doncaster and Sheffield branches of the popular family chain, which first opened its doors in Britain in 1986, are now closed for good, leaving the restaurant chain with just 33 locations across the UK.

Sugarloaf TGIF Operations Limited has taken over the business and assets of Liberty Bar and Restaurant Group Limited, the UK operator of the American-themed restaurant chain. This deal, finalised immediately after the appointment of administrators, has secured jobs for 1,384 staff members across the remaining restaurants.

However, the rescue package does not include 16 sites which have suddenly stopped trading. The full list of permanently closed branches has now been revealed, according to reports from the Express.

These sites have permanently ceased operations, leading to 456 job losses. The joint administrators have confirmed that their main priority is now to support the affected staff members as they manage the closure of the non-transferring locations, according to Yorkshire Live.

These are where TGI Fridays will be shutting its doors:

  • Aberdeen beach
  • Ashton
  • Bournemouth
  • Braintree
  • Coventry
  • Crawley
  • Doncaster
  • Edinburgh
  • Nottingham
  • Reading
  • Sheffield
  • Staines
  • Stevenage
  • Stratford
  • Telford
  • Walsall

Ryan Grant and Will Wright were appointed joint administrators to Liberty Bar and Restaurant Group Limited today, January 13 2026. In a statement, Phil Broad, Global President of TGI Fridays, expressed his belief that this represents the “best outcome for the business”, with efforts now being focused on revitalising the brand, reports Yorkshire Live.

He declared: “We have been working closely to explore all available options for securing the long-term future of TGI Fridays in the UK, and believe that this is the best outcome for the business, preserves jobs, and offers a strong platform for success and growth.

“TGI Fridays has a long history in the UK, and I believe that the future of the brand is in strong hands – focused on reinvigorating the brand while continuing to deliver the bold flavours, welcoming atmosphere, and high-energy dining experience that define TGI Fridays.”

The iconic restaurant chain is not the only high street staple which has succumbed to closures in recent months as other major stores have had to shut up shop after going into administration. Cheap-shop giant Poundland was valued at just £1 and had dozens of its shops close across the end of 2025, leading into 2026.

As well as this, other shops have been caught in administration woes and have had to sell off their premises after being unable to pay their bills. These include fashion brands including River Island and Claire’s, the latter of which having completely lost all of its branches.
