EXCLUSIVE: Rage rooms are all the rage at the minute (pardon the pun) so Daily Star took a trip to The Holroyd Arms to see what all the fuss is about…
Smashing through a rage room recently became the most transformative experience of my life.
As friends, the four of us have had a rage room on our bucket list for years and we recently stumbled across The Holroyd Arms in Guildford, which describes itself as “more than just a pub” offering a Maxesive axe throwing experience complete with rage room, retro games, live music and more all under one roof, so we just knew we had to check the place out.
Top tip – definitely book your activities in this order and read on to find out why…
After signing our waivers, we wasted no time wielding our axes and getting down to business. We were allowed to play our own music to get us in the mood and let out our loudest Viking battle cries as we flung our weapons into the targets.
Over and over again we pictured our enemies in our minds and launched the axes at the wooden panel in an attempt to bag the most points. We went head to head for an hour, which was the perfect amount of time for four players and way better than an hour in the therapists chair.
We ended the game feeling perfectly hyped up for our next activity – the highly anticipated rage room. After stopping for a quick drink break back in the main bar, we made our way over to get suited and booted in helmets, protective glasses and gloves. Following a quick safety briefing and a minute to link up our pre-planned rage playlist, the 60 minute therapy session was well underway.
We swung axes over our shoulders, impaled crowbars into old TVs and used baseball bats to break glass bottles like we were playing cricket. The room was filled with broken electronics in ever corner and we had full reign as Prodigy’s Firestarter blasted through the speaker the entire time (of course). Make sure you leave your drinks outside as it gets pretty wild in there!
We laughed, shouted, screamed and cackled throughout the whole experience and before we knew it, time had ran away with us and the hour was up. After launching the final few glasses into the air, we reluctantly exited the room and vowed to each other that we’d definitely be coming back again soon for another round.
Our third and final activity helped us wind down after a few hours of pure frenzy. The Retro Hub is the ultimate night out activity centre, featuring a dart board, pool tables, air hockey, shuffleboard and arcade games.
However, we were obviously drawn in by the main attraction – the karaoke machine. We ran straight over to the microphones and belted our hearts out to Leona Lewis, Little Mix, Nicki Minaj and Britney Spears as the built-in camera recorded every moment of us wailing at the top of our lungs (sorry neighbours!)
Kick back and relax on the sofas or challenge your pals to some table tennis with a few drinks for the perfect, fun-filled evening at The Holroyd Arms.
Their friendly staff are more than happy to answer any questions you may have and always deliver service with a smile. We had a great time and can’t wait to return next time we need to let off some steam!
