Actor James Buckley, famed for playing Jay Cartwright in The Inbetweeners, says he has genuinely considered trying to get a pilot’s license and wants to fly rich people around
Inbetweeners legend James Buckley wants to train as a pilot.
The 38-year-old, who played foul mouth Jay – famous for shouting “bus w****rs” at people at bus stops in the cult sitcom – said he thought flying a plane would be easier than being a cabbie.
Speaking this week, the dad-of-two said he had genuinely considered trying for his pilot’s licence. He revealed: “Imagine a bunch of lads going to Ayia Napa, and their pilot is Jay from The Inbetweeners.”
He previously said: “I wanted to be a cab driver at one point and thought I’d do ‘the Knowledge’, but that was really hard.
“My most recent one, (I want to get) a pilot’s licence. I could do private jets, so if you’re some rich person that has a jet and needs a pilot, you hire me and then f***ing Jay from the Inbetweeners turns up.”
James also revealed how he was also up for a new Inbetweeners – either a series or a third movie. It comes after creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris recently bought back the rights to the show from TV production firm Banijay UK.
And if it was on the cards, the actor reckons the show – which also starred Simon Bird as Will, Blake Harrison as Neil and Joe Thomas as Simon – would be “ruder than ever”.
He added: “We wouldn’t worry about offending people. If anything, we’d probably go even further… if we’re making any more there’s no danger of us minding our manners.”
Banijay’s chief executive Patrick Holland said he was “delighted to pick up the conversation about the future of The Inbetweeners with them.”
He added: “They have an infectious creative vision for the brand which will resonate with audiences old and new.” The deal paves the way for more Inbetweeners action across various platforms, including TV, film and stage.
Joe and James have also just launched their own podcast, Joe and James Fact Up. Announcing the new pod, the pair wrote: “New Podcast Friends! Joe & James Fact Up. Check out @joeandjamespod NOW on @spotifyuk or where ever you like to listen to your podcasts.”
The Inbetweeners originally aired from 2008 to 2010. It became a cultural phenomenon that spawned two films in 2011 and 2014.
