BRITs Critics Choice winner announced

Date:

BRITs have announced the winner of this year’s prestigious Critic’s Choice Award – having recognised many famous artist – with just weeks to go until the ceremony takes place in Manchester

The BRIT Awards have announced the winner of this year’s Critics Choice Award. The gong has previously been awarded to stars such as Adele, Sam Smith, Jessie J and Sam Fender.

Last month it was revealed that rising artists Jacob Alon, Sienna Spiro, and Rose Gray were all shortlisted for the prestigious prize ahead of the ceremony taking place on February 28.

Now, it has been revealed that Scottish star Jacob has been crowned victorious after having tremendous success with album In Limerence, which made the Mercury Prize shortlist for Album of the Year 2025.

Jacob said: “In the wee town where I grew up in Scotland, it often felt like there was a limit to how high you could dare to dream.

“So being part of something like this makes me feel like I’m floating far above the sky.

“In a world full of broken and rusted jaggy edges, I’m grateful to find a place for softness still. And I will keep fighting for it.

“I really care about and believe in this music, and it makes my world brighter every time it reaches someone else.

“Hopefully this means some more beautiful people might find something in my album. Thank you to anyone who has ever listened.”

The 24-year-old admitted it wasn’t always easy to pursue a career in music, telling the Daily Star: “They [family] tried to stop me actually.

“I think when I was a kid I wanted to be a dentist, I don’t know why, and I don’t know if I really knew what I wanted but I tried not to do music for a long time – Because I never believed.

“Where I am from, it’s not really a thing, you don’t really know how to do it, but I tried for a very long time to make other people and do the thing that was expected of me and I almost didn’t live because of that.

“Reluctantly my family have come onboard, but I have found my chosen family.”

This year the BRIT Awards will take place at Manchester’s Co-op Live arena for the first time.
