La Voix explains why she kept job quiet during Strictly Come Dancing

Date:

Strictly Come Dancing star La Voix has landed the role of Miss Hannigan in the Annie musical, but she joked she had to keep it secret when she was on the BBC show.

Strictly star La Voix has joked about why she decided to hide some thrilling career news from Craig Revel Horwood.

The RuPaul’s Drag Race UK favourite, who recently hinted she’d like the Strictly presenting job after Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly left, was a competitor on the most recent series of the BBC programme and is now going on the live tour. She is also set to play the role of Miss Hannigan in a forthcoming UK tour of the Annie musical.

The character is one Strictly judge Craig has previously portrayed himself, so La Voix quipped that she remained tight-lipped in case he’d been vying for it as well.

Speaking on The One Show on Monday (January 19), she joked that she worried she might receive poor marks on the dancefloor if he discovered her secret, reports Wales Online.

Discussing the role, presenter Roman Kemp observed: “And of course, Craig Revel Horwood has played this role before?”

“Yes, and so many greats,” responded La Voix. “I was really nervous when I was doing Strictly when the conversations were about this.

“But he might have been up for the same role. And I was like, ‘Don’t tell him I’ve got it because I’ll get twos on the paddles every single week’.”

“He wasn’t up for it luckily,” added the performer, who is currently rehearsing for the Strictly tour.

When asked if Craig had offered her any advice, La Voix confirmed he had, and said that they had discussed it between performances.

She revealed: “And he said to me, ‘You know, you’re going to love it because she’s a real character. And you get to tune in and make her real. And, you know, she’s quite scary. You know, running an orphanage and obviously likes a bit of gin, you know’.”

La Voix had to prematurely exit Strictly last year due to a foot injury, but is able to participate in the tour after recuperating.

Addressing her fans following her abrupt departure last year, she expressed: “Darlings, it breaks my heart to say this, but after all week of hoping, healing, and doing everything I possibly could, my injury simply hasn’t improved the way we prayed it would.

“With the guidance of the medical team and a heavy, heavy heart I have to officially withdraw from Strictly Come Dancing.”
