The President is in attendance at the CFB Championship game in Miami and was shown on the big screen during the national anthem at Hard Rock Stadium.
US President Donald Trump has arrived at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, drawing a mix of cheers and jeers from the Miami crowd as he takes his seat to watch the 2026 CFB national titles game.
Trump is in Miami to watch on as the Miami Hurricanes take on the Indiana Hoosiers in the 2026 CFP National Championship on Monday night, January 19.
During the national anthem, when Trump was shown on the big screen, a deafening chorus of noise swept through the stadium – with initial cheers being responded to by boos from some. The camera was quickly taken off the president and his family seconds later.
The game will pit the league-ranked number one Indiana against Miami, ranked 10, in the national title in Miami, Florida. The White House confirmed that President Donald Trump would be in attendance at the game, flanked by Florida native Marco Rubio, the now-Secretary of State and former senator of the sunshine state.
US Secretary of State Rubio spoke to spectators and posed for photos with football fans before kickoff. The longtime sports fan and Miami native told reporters at the sidelines: “I’ll be here with the President as well.”
He told NBC sports editor Greg Rosenstein: “We got a couple things going on that I got to talk to him about as soon as he gets in the building.”
Trump’s appearance makes up part of his schedule for Martin Luther King Day, but also will be his third College Football Playoff (CFB) national championship game. He previously attended the 2018 Alabama‑Georgia and 2020 Clemson‑LSU titles.
Those in the stands are undoubtedly there to enjoy the game, but America and the world watches on tonight to focus squarely on the US President. Tensions are high as Trump continues to agitate European leaders with sanctions as he carries on with his campaign to annex Greenland.
The American game comes a few days after an NBA game was held in London on Sunday, where a heckler from the crowd yelled out in protest over the US President’s attempts on Greenland. The outburst drew cheers from the crowd after the US national anthem. The moment highlighted growing tensions over President Donald Trump’s attempts to annex the Arctic island.
Match commentators spoke of the tears already flowing from some players on the field before the coin toss, with the game tipped to be an “emotional” one. It is certain to be for Miami, with the final game also the last for defensive lineman Rueben Bain Jr.
Bain is expected to miss the next college season and enter this year’s NFL draft, where he is likely be among the first picks. The defensive linesman will play his final game at Hard Rock Stadium tonight; only 0 miles north of where he went to high school.
He said earlier in the week: “I was actually sitting on the bench at practice with my dad like two days ago, and I told him I’m going to cry.”
He added: “No matter the outcome of the game, I’m going to cry. It’s really my last game. It’s been a long but quick three years, spending all my time here at Miami. It’s like a fairytale story for me because get to start it at Hard Rock and end it at Hard Rock. I’m going to cry. I know I’m going to cry.”
The majority of experts predict Indiana will triumph over Miami.
