The TV presenter has died at the age of 50 after a secret battle with cancer, with tributes pouring in for the beloved journalist
The television world is grieving the loss of a cherished TV presenter.
Mabel Montes, who sadly passed away at the age of 50 after privately fighting an aggressive form of cancer.
Mabel was a recognisable figure on Spanish television, launching her career at Televisión de Galicia (TVG) and becoming a regular on programmes like Galicia News and O Tempo, the network’s weather show.
Last year, Mabel stepped away from public view to receive cancer treatment, keeping her personal struggle out of the spotlight.
Spanish media reports indicate she was battling pancreatic cancer, notorious for its high fatality rate, during her final months.
A journalism graduate from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Mabel was lauded by the Galician Radio and Television Corporation as being “committed to her profession, with a clear vocation for rigour and truth”.
They continued: “Mabel Montes always practiced journalism with a sense of public service. She was a role model, a colleague, and a great friend.”
They also emphasised her dedication to providing quality information and respecting her viewers, reports the Express.
Mabel was laid to rest on 21 January in her hometown of Zas, Spain.
Tributes have been flooding in for the late presenter, with one fan tweeting: “RIP Mabel Montes, we will always love you.”
Another wrote: “Rest in peace, beautiful. My thoughts are with family and friends.”
Whilst a third commented: “Rest in peace, precious.”
“My sincere condolences and much encouragement to the family. She was a great journalist and presenter of the time,” read another heartfelt tribute.
Another individual shared, “Rest in peace Mabel, classmate and boarding of my daughter Beatriz, good girl I personally met, a big kiss for her family.”
