Michael van Gerwen’s ex-wife admits ‘mistake’ as lover’s baby due and darts ace ‘tricked’

Michael van Gerwen’s ex-wife Daphne Govers has opened up about her pregnancy with boyfriend Robert in a bombshell interview on their love-triangle scandal on Dutch television

Michael van Gerwen’s ex-wife Daphne Govers’ new partner Robert has claimed he’s not proud of “pulling a trick” on the three-time World Darts Champion in a love-triangle scandal.

Daphne and Van Gerwen went their separate ways in May after a decade of marriage, during which they had two children. Her new man says they had been been acquainted “for a long time” and the pair, who claim they “always clicked”, are now expecting a child next month – just seven months after Daphne’s separation from MVG.

Discussing Daphne’s separation from Van Gerwen and how their own relationship began, the couple confessed in an explosive interview with Dutch TV show Shownieuws. Robert said: “That’s when the spark ignited. It wasn’t the intention, but it happened.

“We didn’t want to offend anyone, let me be clear about that. We didn’t want to hurt anyone, not Michael, not anyone. It happened. It turned out a little differently than expected,” reports Wales Online.

Daphne says Robert had ended things with his former partner before they started seeing each other, while he emphasised his ‘respect’ for Van Gerwen.

The darts ace has encountered his ex-wife’s new boyfriend through their custody arrangements for their two children, Mike and Zoe, whom he shares with Daphne.

“I find it difficult,” Robert added. “Of course, I pulled that trick on him, and I’m not proud of it, but hey, I chose my own happiness, and he’s welcome here.”

Their shared interview about their relationship followed Daphne’s revelation that she’s expecting a ‘miracle’ baby with her new partner next month – but admitted an overlapping “mistake”.

“I didn’t expect it. I was at the hospital with the other two, too,” she explained. “I couldn’t have gotten pregnant naturally. If it does happen, it’ll be a miracle.

“My world was completely turned upside down. How am I going to handle this? But in the end, it all worked out. It’s more than welcome. Of course, a mistake was made on my part. Everyone knows that. We don’t have to hide that. I’d rather keep the story private.”

When questioned about Van Gerwen’s feelings regarding her pregnancy, Daphne responded: “I wouldn’t dare say. I don’t think very happy, but I really don’t know.”

Van Gerwen, currently battling it out at the World Darts Championship, branded 2025 as the ‘worst year of his life’ after recently ending his silence regarding his divorce and the collapse of his 11-year marriage.

The 36-year-old is currently pursuing his fourth World Darts Championship at Ally Pally, having secured his place in the fourth round against Gary Anderson following a 4-1 triumph over Arno Merk on Sunday.

After that win, he commented: “I think overall I put in a decent performance. In patches I played some really good darts, and with that in your mind, you know you’re capable of doing more.

“Growing is a big word. But you have to do it in the moments when you have to do it, and I think that’s exactly what I’m doing.”
