Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty and his new wife Holly Ramsay have changed their surnames to Peaty-Ramsay after their lavish wedding, but not everybody is said to be happy with the move
Adam Peaty has reportedly been branded ‘hypocritical’ for changing his surname after tying the knot with Holly Ramsay. The newlyweds have adopted the double-barrelled surname Peaty-Ramsay in a move which has been described as an unintentional ‘slight’ in an ongoing family feud.
The couple have already updated their Instagram profiles to reflect the change – but the move may have ‘irritated’ Adam’s ex Eiri Munro, according to an insider.
Adam and Eiri, an artist living in Wales, split in 2021 but share a five-year-old son, George. According to The Sun, Eiri wanted George to take her surname as well as Adam’s, but claims the Olympic swimmer didn’t allow it.
The outlet quoted a pal close to Eiri saying: “It feels a bit rich to Eiri that Adam has been quick to change his name but didn’t allow her the same right for their son. It appears Adam is being a bit hypocritical.”
The same source said, however, that Eiri was proud to see George with his dad at his wedding, and “can’t fault” the swimmer as a dad. The friend also said Eiri felt lucky that George has a stepmum like Holly.
But Adam’s name change may also have upset some of his own family, following an ongoing feud that saw his parents Caroline and Mark miss the wedding, with his sister Bethany the only Peaty family representative.
A source told The Sun: “This will feel like a massive slight to Caroline and Mark but Adam just wants the circus to end. His parents may be upset but it’s not intentional.”
Adam’s mum has been open about the pain she’s experiencing from being excluded. She told the Daily Mail before the ceremony: “I don’t think they understand how much they have hurt me; it’s as if they have cut my heart out.
“This is the first Christmas that I’ve not had my family together – my family is broken. Yes, I have my other grandchildren. Yes, I have my other children, but my family is split because of the goings on… because of the wedding.”
As Adam reached Bath Abbey on his wedding day, he is said to have received a text from his aunt, criticising him and his bride for their behaviour leading up to their special day, reports The Mirror.
Her message reportedly stated: “I hope you never suffer the depth of pain you have put your mother through, and despite it all, she loves you still.
It continued: “Shame on you both. Remember on this, your happiest day, and on each anniversary of your happiest day, that you hurt your mum so deeply her soul screams.”
