Nineteen-year-old Camila Mendoza Olmos disappeared on Christmas Eve and police have found a body in a field near the teenager’s home after saying she could have been in ‘imminent danger’
The body believed to be a missing teenager has been found after disappearing on Christmas Eve. Camila Mendoza Olmos, 19, disappeared from in San Antonio, Texas on December 24. Officers have found a body in a field “very close” to the teen’s home, but have not confirmed whether it is Olmos.
Her family has been informed. The medical examiner will confirm identification and cause and manner of death in due course.
Foul play is not suspected, but police said “there are some indicators that the body that we found may be as a result of [self harm]”.
“From what has been described to us, it sounds like it was a young person going through a very tough time in their life, going through some emotional issues,” Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said, speaking to reporters on Wednesday, December 31.
There was sufficient information to suggest that Olmos, who had recently experienced a “mutual” breakup, could have been in “imminent danger,” police had said.
Investigators considered kidnapping and human trafficking as possible factors in her disappearance.
They also considered the possibility that Olmos left on her own volition.
Police earlier this week released dashcam footage which they believed showed the teen walking along a path. Salazar said the person in the footage was wearing clothes that matched what Olmos was wearing.
Olmos was wearing a sky blue and black hoodie, pale blue pyjama bottoms, and white shoes when she disappeared around 7am on Christmas Eve.
A person believed to be the teen was seen on the family’s security video, apparently searching for something in her car, police said.
Investigators believe she left the home on foot, with only her car keys and possibly her driver’s licence, ABC News reported.
Multiple agencies, including the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security, assisted police in Texas in searching for Olmos.
