A fake Wetherspoons is selling pints for as little as £2.83, serving up traditional pub grub like Hunters Chicken and even showing premier league footie on the box. But there is a catch…
Bargain-hunting Brits are flocking to a ‘fake Wetherspoons’ pub which shows Premier League footie and serves pints for a budget-busting £2.83.
The cheeky boozer, called Witherspoons, boasts a budget-friendly beer menu which is more than a quid cheaper than the real thing and is packed with 35 tellies which also show American football and Formula 1.
It has now released its new drinks menu and punters can grab a large glass of Chang Beer for just £2.83, compared with a pint of Bud Light in The Moon Under the Water in Leicester Square, central London, costs £3.99.
But beer lovers will have to catch a flight to the cut-price bar, which is in Pattaya, Thailand – 6,000 miles from Blighty.
The most expensive pint in Witherspoons is a Guinness, at £5.65, cheaper than the average price of the beloved stout in London which sits at £6.
A classic shot of Sambuca also costs an eye-watering amount in comparison. Wetherspoons charge a whopping £6.10 for a single shot whilst the Thai boozer prices theirs at just £2.94.
Punters can choose from a wide range of drinks on tap including Heineken, Tiger, Chang, Guinness, San Miguel and Stowford Press, while bottles cost as little as £1.77.
The drinks menu release comes after Wetherspoons announced their January sales – starting on Jan 2. A spokesperson for Witherspoons said: “Looking for a solid place to drink in Pattaya?
“Get yourself down Soi Buakhao to Witherspoons Pattaya. Here’s a look at our drinks menus so you can see what we pour and what it costs before you even walk through the door.”
British cut-price pub favourite JD Wetherspoon famously refuses to screen league football to dodge broadcast fees and the rowdy atmosphere. The chain usually only makes rare exceptions for massive events such as the World Cup.
Thailand’s Witherspoon said: “Every English Premier League match is live, loud, and running straight through the afternoon and night. Find a seat and get something cold in your hand.”
One Aussie holidaymaker said they visit the bar as an annual tradition to watch the AFL Grand Final on the tv.
They wrote on Tripadvisor: “Always had a good experience, the food is good, the staff very friendly. The new renovations are awesome, so many TVs’ to choose from, a great day each time.”
