The Traitors fans moan at ‘poor’ season 4 format shake-up

Date:

The Traitors has finally returned for its fourth season with Claudia Winkleman revealing the true meaning behind the new red cloak.

The Traitors fanatics have voiced their frustrations just moments into the fourth series premiere as the BBC programme unveils a fresh twist.

The Traitors series four has officially kicked off with 22 fresh participants arriving in Scotland to put their abilities to the test, with Faithfuls on the hunt for Traitors whilst Traitors attempt everything possible to mask their true identities.

As usual, presenter Claudia Winkleman was present to eerily greet her visitors to the haunting castle, though at the episode’s opening, she hinted that this year would be completely different from previous instalments.

“Before you take the Traitor’s Oath, I imagine you’re wondering why this cloak is a different colour”, she said whilst displaying a crimson cloak.

“I can now reveal you have a special role…you are my Secret Traitor.”

She subsequently disclosed how this series would vary, stating: “As always, I will choose my Traitors.

“But I’m going to do something else. I’m also going to pick a Secret Traitor.

“Nobody will know who that is, not the Traitors and not even you. It’s naughty, isn’t it?”

Nevertheless, it wasn’t long before viewers began grumbling on social media regarding the new development.

“Tbh the Secret Traitor thing is gonna get old real fast”, one viewer posted.

Another commented: “Oh God this Secret Traitor is going to have me stressing!”

A third observed: “The Secret Traitor has been introduced because Faithfuls will always banish right until the end to leave only two players.

“They won’t take the risk of leaving a Traitor in and because it means a greater share of the prize pot. I think this twist is poor.

“Hate the Secret Traitor twist. Might be proved wrong but it spoils something for the viewer imo”, one disgruntled watcher moaned, whilst another chimed in: “The audience figuring out who the Secret Traitor is all dependent on how good the directing/producing is. It’s simply impossible, or at best a complete guess – making it a rubbish viewing experience for us.”

However, some fans have embraced the fresh shake-up, with certain viewers branding it “absolute genius”, though others reckon it’s already reached “overkill” territory.

Meanwhile, a portion of the audience remains baffled by the format change, flocking to X, previously known as Twitter, to voice their bewilderment.

“Bit confused by the Secret Traitor thing tho – are they trying to work WITH the other Traitors, or trying to get them exposed and banished? !”.

One puzzled fan enquired: “So what happens if the Traitors work out who the Secret Traitor is?”, whilst another wondered: “So what happens if our Secret Traitor is banished? Will another be picked?”.

The outcome of this controversial Secret Traitor mechanism remains to be seen as the freshly chosen Traitors – Stephen, Rachel and Hugo – attempt to maintain their cover at all costs.

The Traitors is available to watch on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
