Donald Trump threatens three more countries with Venezuela-style action in worrying vow

Date:

Cuba, Colombia and Mexico appear to be in US President Donald Trump’s crosshairs next after he showed the US’s military might by capturing Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro

US President Donald Trump appears to have made threats of more Venezuela-style US action in Cuba, Colombia and Mexico. The president bragged he is now “running” the South American country after its leader Nicolás Maduro was captured.

Maduro and his wife, First Lady Cilia Flores, are being held at a New York detention centre over drug trafficking-related charges. Critics claim Trump’s move is about oil profits rather than tackling drug kingpins in the country.

But the emboldened Orange Manbaby has hinted he may want to intervene in other countries south of the USA. Mr Trump said Saturday (January 3)’s attack on Venezuela wasn’t meant to be a warning for Mexico, but did add that “something’s going to have to be done” about the cartel-run nation.

Trump also doubled down on his warning to Colombian president Gustavo Petro. He ranted: “He has cocaine mills, he has factories where he makes cocaine.

“And yeah, I think I stick by my first statement: He’s making cocaine.

“They’re sending it to the United States. So he does have to watch his ass.”

The ex-Apprentice host also branded Cuba and its president Miguel Díaz-Canel a “failing nation”.

He said: “Cuba, as you know, is not doing very well right now.

“That system has not been a very good one for Cuba. The people there have suffered for many, many years, and I think Cuba is going to be something we’ll end up talking about, because Cuba is a failing nation right now.

“It’s very similar in the sense that we want to help the people in Cuba, but we want to also help the people that were forced out of Cuba and living in this country.”

It comes after the US president said US oil companies would also fix Venezuela’s “broken infrastructure” and “start making money for the country”.

Maduro has previously denied being a cartel leader and accused the US of using its “war on drugs” as an excuse to try to topple him.
