Taleah Coppola scored six points in the final 16 seconds of regulation to lead host Floyd to a 55-54 win over Bay Shore in Suffolk League I girls basketball action on Friday night.
Coppola hit the tying three-pointer with three seconds left, then followed with the go-ahead technical free throw. She also made a layup with 16 seconds left. She finished the game with 15 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Savannah Pantry had 12 points and 19 rebounds, and JJ Stewart added nine points and four blocks for Floyd (8-3). Nyah Issac scored 19 points and Kimora Pearson had 17 for Bay Shore (9-2).
Sayville 42, Rocky Point 35: Aniela Marino scored 18 points to lead Sayville (5-6) in Suffolk V. Dylan McNamara had 13 points and eight rebounds. Guiliana Tocci scored 14 points for Rocky Point (7-3).
BOYS BASKETBALL
West Hempstead 59, Carle Place 52: Alex Davis hit four three-point field goals and finished with 19 points to lead West Hempstead (9-2) in Nassau VIII. Yency Duran scored 15 points for West Hempstead (9-2). Ryan Leary led all scorers with 34 points for Carle Place (6-6), followed by Mario D’Alessandro with 11.
Shelter Island 67, Ross 56: Evan Weslek scored 41 points to lead Shelter Island (2-6) in Suffolk VII. Ryan Sanwald added 11 points. Raphael Amit scored 22 points for Ross (0-7).
Lynbrook 60, Mineola 54: Jake Prince scored 18 points to lead Lynbrook (7-3) in Nassau VI. Jaime Pereira added 16 points. Christian Frey scored 18 points for Mineola (4-6).
THURSDAY’S GAME
Center Moriches 61, Shoreham-Wading River 60: Anthony Huff and Amauri Whitty both scored 16 points to help lead Center Moriches (7-2) in Suffolk VI. Center Moriches went on a 19-0 run to take a 26-23 lead into halftime after falling behind 21-5 early in the first half.
Zach Makarewicz led all scorers with 20 points for Shoreham-Wading River (9-1).
GYMNASTICS
Hicksville 152.4, Port Washington 152.3: Alexa Danzi placed first in the all-around competition with 32.85 points to lead Hicksville (2-3) in Nassau I. Danzi won the uneven bars by scoring an 8.05 and the balance beam with an 8.8. Chloe Gan won the floor exercise with an 8.9. Hailey McHenry finished second on the floor with an 8.75.
Addison Aarons of Port Washington (2-3) won the vault with an 8.2 and placed second in the all-around with a 32.5, and teammate Angelica Alvez finished second on both vault (8.1) and beam (8.4).
