Yeison Jimenez chillingly said he had a recurring dream that he would die in an air accident, just before he was tragically killed in a horror plane crash on his way to a concert
A top music star killed in a horror fireball plane crash eerily predicted his own death in a chilling interview in which he revealed he had a recurring dream he would die in an air accident just weeks before his death.
Yeison Jimenez – who died alongside his musicians as they flew to a concert in Colombia – told of his eerie premonition during a tv interview.
The father-of-three told Caracol Television programme Se Dice De Mi: “I dreamt three times that we were going to have an accident on the plane and that I had to tell the pilot to go, turn around, and when he arrived he said to me: ‘Oh, boss, thank goodness you told me because something went wrong, but I’ve fixed it just as you wanted.
“In one of the dreams, we were all killed and it was all over the news. It was the third time I had dreamt about that. God gave me three signs and I didn’t understand them, I didn’t get them.”
Speaking about a close call in May last year just before the birth of his second child with partner Sonia Restrepo, whose daughter Camila he also adopted as his own, Yeison said: “I had been doing some interviews in Medellin and the plane had just come out of maintenance.
“It took off and when it did I felt something go ‘puff, puff’ and I started looking at the parameters and saw something was wrong. We had no speed, we weren’t climbing all the engines were saying ‘bad left, bad right.’
“The plane was heading straight towards mountains in front of us. That’s when the photographer pointed out to me that water was coming from one of the engines.
“Everything started to turn in slow motion then. There were just 10 days to go before my son Santiago was born. It was May 24th last year and Santiago was born on June 4.”
Fighting back tears he added: “I thought at that moment, ‘I’m never going to get to see my little boy.’
“As the pilot went towards the Medellin River because that’s the only place where he could have made an emergency landing I thought we were all going to die, he’s going to land in the river. I was seeing in my mind ambulances arriving.
“Something happened and the airspeed indicator rose a little and we eventually landed on the airstrip, with everything showing up red, and I began to cry.”
Admitting he needed therapy to overcome his nightmares of an early death in an airplane accident, he added: “I suffered depression for four months. I had to go to see psychologists.”
Yeison, a singer-songwriter who started performing at the age of seven, was onboard the twin-engine Piper Navajo he owned when it came down shortly after take-off from Paipa Airport in Colombia’s Tundama Province after failing to gain height
Onlookers could be overheard screaming: “It’s running out of airstrip” as it reached the end of the runway.
The other five victims were the pilot, the co-pilot and four passengers including 34-year-old Jimenez, who has performed in countries around the world.
His photographer Weisman Mora, who published a poignant last video of them on the plane as it taxied down the runway, has also been named as one of the victims.
The fatal crash happened just after 4pm local time on Saturday afternoon, two hours after Yeison and three members of his team were pictured buying cheese in a shop near to the airport where the singer posed for selfies with staff.
Yeison had written in a last Instagram post before boarding: “Always humble, because what God gives you he can also take away.” They were heading towards the city of Medellin near to the town of Marinilla where Yeison was due to perform.
Yeison Jimenez, full name Yeison Orlando Jimenez Galeano, was one of the most well-known artists of so-called musica popular, the term often used to refer to a folk music genre which originated in the north-west part of Colombia in the 1930s and 1940s.
He was one of the artists credited with revitalising the genre, publishing eight albums and writing 70 songs in his lifetime.
