Steve Matthews’ Aqueduct selections for Saturday, Dec. 31

Date:

Best bet: WHERE’S YOUR BOOM (1)

Best value: SHEER WILL (3)

FIRST: Where’s Your Boom drilled three times since game second in last; ready for breakthrough. Combat Mission returns to maiden ranks after clear-cut placing versus stakes field; very dangerous. Le Cadeau was a useful fourth in first start; don’t ignore.

SECOND: Life’s Too Short was a tough-trip fourth in debut; life’s too short to play chalk. Pride of the Union owns a second and a third from last two starts; likely favorite. Classic Commander made forward move in second start; developing and dangerous.

THIRD: Sheer Will tallied fast final fraction when winning second straight last out; more to come. Carolina Smokeshow logged front-end score in lone start on Big A loam; very interesting. Sassy Princess wheels back in a hurry after even fourth last Friday; worth long look.

FOURTH: Counter Move makes first start with maiden-claiming tag; tight work slate seals the deal. Good Cop should pack intensified wallop with cutback to sprint. Army Proud lost a head bob for top honors last time; dangerous.

FIFTH: Hadrian’s Wall was a fast-figured second in lone start; signature Chad Brown pattern. Grey Bull regressed in last after clear-cut placing in prior; rebound threat. Double Act is another that took backward step in most recent outing; must be factored into the mix.

SIXTH: Let It Ride was nearly clear by a pole when second in last; amplified kick predicted with turnback to sprint. Kerness K delivered subpar effort in last after fast-figured win in prior; very dangerous. Derek’s Law weakened on muddy surface last time; class drop and dry land enhance chances.

SEVENTH: Bam’s Bliss Kiss notched wire-to-wire wins in last two; gets hat trick. Intentious could be in the garden spot if top selection hits the wall. Storm Changer never got going when facing better in the slop last out; price will be tempting.

EIGHTH: Sin Nombre owns a late-running style that should play well in cheap nightcap. Amundson drops in first start since claimed; damaged goods? For Some Reason owns speed but lacks heart; must take the good with the bad. Emerald Forest owns fast back numbers; price will be on your side.
