Coronation Street provided a huge update for Becky Swain on Monday’s episode
Coronation Street’s Lisa Swain and daughter Betsy were left relieved on Monday night after a huge Becky Swain update.
Last year, Lisa and Betsy got the shock of their life when Becky Swain returned from the dead. Becky was believed to have passed away in 2021, and Lisa had moved forward with her life, embarking on a relationship with Carla Connor.
The pair even purchased a home together to raise Lisa’s daughter, Betsy, as a family unit.
However, last year, Becky made a dramatic comeback, revealing she hadn’t died but had been in hiding all along leaving ex-wife Lisa and daughter Betsy gobsmacked.
It didn’t take long for Becky to stir up trouble in Lisa and Carla’s relationship, secretly vowing to reclaim her family. After Becky moved in and began playing manipulative games, Carla decided to end her relationship with Lisa, leaving both women heartbroken.
In the midst of her emotional turmoil, Carla chose to leave Weatherfield during the holiday season, jetting off on a spontaneous solo trip to Lanzarote.
However, it was soon revealed that Becky had kidnapped Carla, holding her hostage, as she used her phone to send curt messages to Lisa.
In last week’s Corriedale, Kit Green, who had been suspicious of Becky and feared Carla was in danger, managed to locate the latter’s whereabouts as the duo went in pursuit of Becky.
Becky was on her way to Spain for a fresh start with Lisa and Betsy in the car. However, during the Coronation Street and Emmerdale crossover, Corriedale, Emmerdale’s John Sugden crashed his car into Becky’s, causing a deadly car pile-up.
Following the collision, Becky was arrested and on Monday’s episode, the ITV soap issued an update about her future.
Lisa went to see her superior at the police station, DI Thompson, insisting: “The thing is, I’m afraid Becky’s going to lie at the hearing and try to frame me. But I swear to you, everything I said in my statement is the truth”, adding she loves her job and can’t lose it.
To which her superior, DI Thompson, interjected with: “Let me just stop you there. I thought maybe you’d heard. The hearing’s over. She got 12 years and as far as I know, your name wasn’t mentioned, which I guess is the good news.
“And the not-so-good news… you’re being placed on restricted duties while there’s an internal investigation.”
DI Thompson added: “Listen, from what I hear, you’re a good cop. Keep your head down and soon you’ll be able to put this whole chapter behind you. In the meantime, at least you know Becky’s out of your life.”
It then showed Becky struggling in prison as she was taunted by other inmates using her police profession against her.
The episode ended with Lisa relaying the news to Betsy, who had previously confronted her mum Becky in prison wishing she was dead.
Lisa said they don’t ever have to see her again, adding: “We’re gonna be okay, kiddo. We’re gonna be okay.”
Coronation Street continues on weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV and ITV X.
