Tova Leigh is a mum-of-three, author, comedian, and content creator who regularly shares her thoughts and body positivity on social media. She recently hit out and exposed ‘trolls’ for vile comments
While there are a lot of great things about social media, it also brings significant drawbacks – including the risk of bullying and harassment from anonymous trolls, especially when sharing content that is controversial or out of the norm. Now one body positivity advocate has defiantly fought back against online bullies after being targeted with vile comments.
Mother-of-three Tova Leigh routinely shares her perspectives on life, relationships, and personal boundaries with her substantial following of more than 414,000 Instagram users. She champions body acceptance through uplifting content, frequently featuring photographs of herself modelling different ensembles. But these empowering posts don’t always receive a warm reaction from her audience.
The writer, comedian, and digital creator recently exposed a series of hateful messages from internet bullies, condemning their spineless behaviour. The vicious abuse directed at Tova included comments such as “damn you ugly as f***” and “you can’t even turn old h*** into housewives”.
“So ugly woman,” read another cruel remark, whilst a separate user had written: “Ugly, fat old cow”
Tova, who lives in London, used her platform to publicly shame these despicable critics. Posting an image of herself dressed in black lingerie beneath a brown kimono, she displayed multiple nasty comments from earlier posts alongside the usernames of those responsible.
She then used the post’s caption to share her response. “I’m sharing a few of the comments I’ve received recently on some of my content,” Tova began. “Some was about women’s desires, some about women’s rights.”
She added: “It never stops fascinating me how some men react when women talk about how we feel. About OUR experience in the world. Not all men, of course – many listen, reflect, and even learn. But some don’t. Some lash out.”
She went on to explain that throughout the years, she’d observed how slurs are frequently wielded as ammunition, with terms like ‘ugly’ or ‘s***’ designed to ‘silence us’. “As if shouting them loudly enough will make us shrink, stop speaking, stop taking up space,” she explained. “But the truth is, it has the opposite effect on me.”
She added: “Why women’s voices matter – and why it’s so important to keep speaking, not just for ourselves, but as a reminder to other women that we are not alone, not imagining it, and not too much. And most importantly, that we don’t need to shrink, or apologise for being exactly who we are.”
Tova’s message attracted more than 3,300 likes and 300 responses, with supporters flooding the comments to show their backing. “As always, you’re gorgeous and they are hurt little man children,” one follower commented.
Another supporter declared: “You’re a QUEEN! In every way! Thank you for speaking out. You’re an inspiration and you help me inspire my friends to love themselves also.”
A third individual expressed: “Honestly I’m so sorry, this is abusive language and adult bullying. It’s the entitlement that really bothers me… centuries of being [allowed] to treat people like this and get away with it.”
Another supporter chimed in: “To me you are beautiful! And more than this, your soul is beautiful! Poor small people [are] not able to see it.”
This isn’t Tova’s first encounter with online trolls – she often exposes their cruel remarks, even sharing their names and screenshots of their comments. But rather than letting the negativity affect her, Tova uses these instances as reminders of why she continues to speak out on women’s issues.
“I am a mother of girls,” she declared. “And I never want my daughters to believe that a man’s opinion of their bodies, their age, or the way they choose to live should make them smaller – physically, emotionally, or otherwise. I never want them to shrink themselves to make others more comfortable.
“So instead of hiding, I stand here – visible, unapologetic – celebrating the woman I am, in the body I have,” Tova continued. “And in doing so, I hope my daughters, your granddaughter, and any woman who has ever been told to take up less space hears this clearly: No. Simply no.”
