Eddie Hearn has led tributes after two members of Anthony Joshua’s team were tragically killed in a car accident in Nigeria on Monday, with the British heavyweight suffering minor injuries
Eddie Hearn has led the tributes to the two close friends of Anthony Joshua who tragically died in a car crash in Nigeria on Monday – describing them as ‘great men’. The collision claimed the lives of Kevin Ayodele and Sina Ghami, while British boxer Joshua was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The accident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, just outside Lagos, on Monday morning when a black Lexus Jeep collided with a stationary red commercial Sinotruck.
Ayodele, also known as Latz, and Ghami were both close friends of Joshua and members of his team. Two other men in the car are reported to have been luckily unharmed following the collision.
Matchroom Sport chairman Hearn was among those who paid respects to Ayodele and Ghami when news of their heartbreaking deaths was confirmed, reports the Mirror.
“With the heaviest of hearts,” he posted on Instagram. “Two great men. Rest in eternal peace Sina and Latz. My thoughts and deepest prayers are with everyone.”
Boxer Chris Eubank Jr also shared an emotional message, writing: “Thank god our heavyweight champ survived that horrible car crash. And pray for the two fallen soldiers Latz and Sina and their families.
“I knew both… they were genuinely good men. Rest in Peace boys.”
Ayodele had been Anthony’s dedicated personal trainer, travelling as part of his entourage. He had grown a small but dedicated fanbase as he shared fitness and lifestyle tips, under the moniker of Healthy Mindset. He was also a close friend with the boxing icon, with his first Instagram post in 2015 featuring the muscly titan.
Originally named Kevin Ayodele, he played football for Aylesbury United, Chalfont Wasps and Northwood. After converting to Islam, he adopted the Islamic name of Latif and was known as Latz for short.
Misfits Boxing’s Slim Albaher also offered his condolences, writing: “Sending prayers for Anthony Joshua and for the two brothers who tragically passed away in the car accident. I can’t believe Latz was one of the guys involved… he was such a good soul and a supportive brother. Allah Yerhamu, may Allah grant Latz and Sina Jannah.”
Fellow fighter Mutah Beale expressed his sorrow: “From Allah we belong to Allah we return, sad and shocking news about the death of our dear brother Abdul-Latif resulting from a car crash, May Allah have mercy on him and grant him Jannah, and May Allah make this difficult time easy for his family. We also wish a speedy recovery for the champ.”
