Emmerdale’s Bear Wolf actor pays tribute to co-stars as double exit confirmed

Date:

Emmerdale star Joshua Richards has confirmed he misses two of his co-stars as they have now left the show

Joshua Richards has opened up about “missing” two of his co-stars as they exit Emmerdale.

In a recent episode of the ITV soap opera, Joshua’s character, Bear Wolf, has been a victim of modern slavery. After leaving his home, the former wrestler tragically succumbed to an evil regime orchestrated by Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths) and her son, Ray Walters (Joe Absolom).

On Tuesday (December 30), Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle) and April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) hatched a plan to rescue Bear from the forced labour operation at the farm.

Having also fallen victim to Ray and Celia’s drug operation and forced sex work, the teenagers are hellbent on ensuring Bear returns home to his son, Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt), who has been worried about his dad’s whereabouts.

April managed to sneak onto the farm and tried to convince Bear to leave with her as he was repairing the chicken coop, but Celia unexpectedly appeared.

As April fled, Celia spotted her in the distance whilst Bear insisted he hadn’t spoken to the youngster. In a terrifying development, Celia ordered Ray to murder April and Bear.

Speaking about the harrowing slavery storyline and Celia and Ray getting their comeuppance after months of torture, Joshua explained he now misses working with his co-stars after delivering such a powerful plot on-screen.

The actor explained: “I think the viewers can’t wait for the feedback I’ve been getting from people in the streets and from family and friends.

“They can’t wait for them to get their comeuppance. And of course, I suppose we, as arbiters of what’s right and wrong on TV, ITV can feel justified in saying, yes, we can end this now, because the viewing public is fed up with these people and the terrible acts they are committing.

“But unfortunately, in society, you can’t do that, because they’re all pervading and they’re always there, hovering in the darkness.”

Paying tribute to Ray and Celia stars, Joshua added: “But I thoroughly enjoyed working with Joe Absolom and with Jaye Griffiths, who are both great actors, and I do miss them now. As they’ve gone. But for the storyline, I think everybody in the village has nothing but benefits from their demise.”

Speaking about the impact of Bear Wolf’s modern slavery plot, Joshua shared his pride at bringing such a harrowing subject to the attention of viewers.

He explained: “I think the job that has been done by the producers, the writers, and the script editors has been outstanding.

“And to bring a story like this to the forefront, which was up for analysis and discussion, makes great sense to us as a general public about the kind of things which are happening under our noses in plain sight in modern Britain today.”

He added, “Modern slavery is alive and well, and it’s horrifying. I think it was very brave for people to bring this subject forward, and I’m intensely proud of what we, as a team, have done.

“It was a huge collaboration, and this is a subject that most of the time is brushed under the carpet. But they brought it to the forefront of our minds.”

Emmerdale viewers will have to tune in to see how Bear Wolf’s modern slavery plot concludes on the ITV soap.

Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV and ITVX
