A brave mum jumped into the sea to save her four-year-old daughter after the tot fell and became trapped between a cruise ship and a pier. The mum afterwards said she and her family had “a long road ahead” after the girl was “traumatised” by the terrifying incident.
The heart-wrenching episode began when the girl stepped away from her mum momentarily and slipped into the sea. The quick-thinking and courageous mum braved the drop into the ocean as the ship’s crew lowered a ladder and life rings into the water.
Video of the incident, which happened just days before Christmas, showed crew members of the Carnival Sunrise ship pulling the girl to safety after she was rescued by her loving mum, with applause erupting from a crowd of onlookers gathered on the dock.
In the dramatic footage, the girl can be seen being passed to another woman to be comforted, before the mum, dressed in a pink bathing suit, is pulled out of the water, reports the Daily Mail. The heroic woman is then seen overwhelmed with tears of relief on realising she had saved her daughter’s life.
The creator of the video posted it online, along with the caption: “A mama jumped in after her baby, brave woman! Very scary situation but they were rescued quickly!”
After being contacted by the mum, she later added in the comments: “I just received a message from the mother, the woman that jumped in after her child. She said they’re fine, traumatized, but fine.”
She added: “I’m so glad this all turned out ok and everyone was brought to safety. She was a brave woman, but any mother would do the same!”
The mum herself later joined the comments to thank well wishers, posting: “Thank you, everyone, for your prayers and words of encouragement. My kids and I have a long road ahead of us to heal from this traumatic situation.”
The incident took place in the Bahamas on December 21. In a statement to the Daily Mail, the Carnival Cruise Line said: “A four‑year‑old girl briefly walked away from her mother and fell into the water.
‘”Her mother immediately jumped in after her. Our ship and security team quickly brought them both to safety, and our medical team evaluated them. Both are doing well.”
