Thomas Skinner became emotional in the boardroom as he returned to the BBC show six years after his original appearance
Celebrity Apprentice fans were taken aback as a poignant moment unfolded in the boardroom, with Thomas Skinner becoming tearful whilst Alan Sugar delivered his signature cutting humour.
As the 12 contestants were unveiled for the festive edition of the BBC programme, Alan turned his attention to the returning participant, who had appeared on The Apprentice in 2019.
“Since when did you get celebrity status?” he asked. Thomas replied: “I don’t know.”
Alan continued: “He was here as an ordinary candidate, now he’s here on Celeb Apprentice, bit of a wheeler dealer. He sells Christmas cards on New Year’s Day.”
When Thomas appeared visibly moved, the programme’s Karren Brady asked: “Are you crying?”
According to the Express, Thomas – who featured on Strictly this year – admitted: “I don’t get upset, really, it’s just I didn’t see this show six years ago, and it’s changed my life, and I’m back here.”
Alan delivered another blow with his trademark sharp wit, declaring: “It is exciting for me too, as you’re the only candidate I might end up firing twice.”
Thomas, who was partnered with Amy Dowden on the BBC ballroom show, replied: “I hope not. Fingers crossed.”
The moment sparked discussion on social media, with one viewer posting on X (formerly Twitter): “Bless Thomas Skinner crying on the show – he’s a good guy with a good heart and appreciates all the opportunities he’s had from this show. Go get ’em, @iamtomskinner, screw the haters! #celebrityapprentice.”
Another commented: “Bro gets his stuff taken out of context and just gets cooked randomly.”
Someone else quipped: “Jump scare when Thomas Skinner appears and CRIES.”
The boardroom moment came as the latest batch of celebrity participants were officially unveiled for the festive edition of The Celebrity Apprentice.
The line-up featured TV presenter AJ Odudu, broadcaster and podcaster Angela Scanlon, Radio 1 DJ Charlie Hedges, comic Eddie Kadi, actor Jake Wood, singer and television host JB Gill, Paralympic champion Kadeena Cox and Gladiators icon Matt Morsia. Rounding off the roster were barrister and TV personality Rob Rinder, actor Sarah Hadland and comedian Shazia Mirza.
The famous faces were split into two teams and whisked off to Lapland – the North Pole’s headquarters – where they were tasked with creating their own gingerbread treats. As well as baking the goodies, the squads also needed to devise branding, shoot a promotional video and pen a festive tune before pitching to shop bosses in a bid to win orders.
Celebrity Apprentice airs on BBC One.
