Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Wolves at Old Trafford with goalkeeper Senne Lammens impressing while Patrick Dorgu had a late goal ruled out for offside
Manchester United ended 2025 on a miserable note, failing to defeat a Wolves team that has yet to secure a win in their first 19 Premier League matches of the season.
United’s performance was lacklustre from the start, but they managed to take the lead with a messy goal. Ayden Heaven started the move, which eventually saw Joshua Zirkzee score via a deflection from Ladislav Krejci.
Wolves had been the superior side before half-time and earned a well-deserved equaliser. Zirkzee inadvertently assisted Krejci, whose header beat Senne Lammens from a corner. Patrick Dorgu netted a late goal, but it was disallowed for offside.
Here’s how the Daily Star Sport rated the United flops.
Senne Lammens: Made a couple of superb saves in both halves, notably a strong hand against Krejci, reacting quickly to clear the ball from danger. 7.
Lisandro Martinez: His usually reliable passing was off, and he didn’t command the same authority as he did on Boxing Day. 6.
Ayden Heaven: His tackle on Hwang Hee-chan led to the first goal, and he was solid in central defence. The boos when he was substituted for Yoro indicate his growing popularity among fans. 7.
Luke Shaw: Covered a lot of ground in the second half and faced some challenges, but showed his fitness is on the up. His partnership with Patrick Dorgu seems to be missing something. 6.
Diogo Dalot: Didn’t offer much in attack, and Wolves exploited his wing. Made one good block towards the end. 5.
Manuel Ugarte: Filled in due to lack of other options. Defensively sound but weak in possession and targeted when on the ball. 5.
Casemiro: Not at his best, and his partnership with Ugarte lacks game control. Needs to be paired with Kobbie Mainoo or Bruno Fernandes as soon as possible. 6.
Patrick Dorgu: Likely puzzled by being shifted back to the left. Pushed higher after half-time but couldn’t replicate his Boxing Day performance. Scored late but it was disallowed. 5.
Joshua Zirkzee: His goal was largely down to luck. Plenty of fancy flicks but not enough of the hard graft that Amorim had called for. 5.
Matheus Cunha: Didn’t make the impact he’s shown in recent games on a night when he should have been central to the action. 5.
Benjamin Sesko: In need of a goal and should have scored when he hit the post with a header. Worked tirelessly. 5.
Substitutes:
Jack Fletcher: Settled much quicker than on Boxing Day and saw a lot of the ball. Keen to get involved and tried to get United playing. Came out of the match with credit. 7.
Leny Yoro: His introduction was met with boos and seemed somewhat pointless. 6.
Bendito Mantato: Made his debut under challenging circumstances on the right and showed confidence in driving the ball forward at times. 6.
Unused substitutes: Bayindir, Fredricson, Malacia, T. Fletcher, Lacey, Chido.
